NDA Coaching Methodology at Paramount Defence Academy

NDA Foundation Course After Class 10
Starting after Class 10 gives you about two years before your first NDA attempt. That time can make a real difference, because NDA Mathematics draws heavily on the Class 11 and 12 syllabus.
What the foundation course builds
- Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, calculus, vectors, statistics and probability, taught in step with school and then taken to NDA level
- English: grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension, built steadily instead of crammed in the final months
- General knowledge: physics, chemistry, general science, history, geography and current affairs
- Early SSB skills: speaking, group discussion and self-awareness, which take time to develop
A note on Class 11 subjects. Under current UPSC rules, the Air Force and Navy wings require Physics and Mathematics in Class 12, while the Army wing accepts any stream. Choosing Physics and Mathematics in Class 12 is important for students interested in the Air Force and Navy wings. Check the latest UPSC notification for the complete eligibility conditions. NDA Batch for Class 12 Appearing and Passed Students
If you are in Class 12 or have passed it, the NDA I / NDA II batch is designed for your next exam. It covers the full written syllabus on a timetable that works back from the exam date. It includes sectional tests, full-length mock tests and SSB preparation.
Eligibility. Check the official UPSC NDA notification for the date-of-birth range, educational qualifications and other conditions that apply to your exam cycle. The criteria can change from one cycle to the next. Students who are still appearing for their Class 12 exams can generally apply, subject to the notification.

The NDA Selection Process at a Glance

Selected candidates train at the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, Pune. Candidates selected for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme train at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, as stated in the UPSC NDA & NA notification.

How We Prepare Students for the NDA Written Exam
Mathematics
Maths is where most NDA attempts are won or lost. We teach each chapter from the concept up to NDA-level questions, then work on speed and accuracy with previous year questions. Because wrong answers cost marks, students also learn when to leave a question.
General Ability Test (GAT)
GAT carries 600 marks: 200 for English and 400 for general knowledge. We prepare them as separate subjects. Students learn how to divide their time across a long paper and which question types to attempt first.
English
NDA English covers spotting errors, comprehension, sentence ordering, sentence improvement, synonyms and antonyms. We teach grammar rules directly and then practise them in timed sets.
General Knowledge and Science
The GK section tests physics, chemistry, general science, history, geography and current events. Science preparation builds on Class 10–12 concepts, and current affairs are revised regularly in the months before the exam.
Mock Tests and Previous Year Papers
Our mock tests follow the real exam’s pattern, timing and marking. After each test, students get a scorecard and a performance breakdown that show where marks were lost. Previous year papers are solved topic by topic first, then as full papers closer to the exam.
NDA SSB Interview Preparation
The SSB carries 900 marks, the same as the written exam. It assesses officer-like qualities rather than memorised answers. Our SSB preparation covers every stage:
- Screening: the Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and the Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT)
- Psychological tests: the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Word Association Test (WAT), Situation Reaction Test (SRT) and self-description
- GTO tasks: group discussion, the group planning exercise and the other group tasks, including what assessors look for
- Personal interview: mock interviews and practice with the personal information questionnaire
- Communication and confidence: speaking practice, current-affairs discussion and self-presentation
We don’t teach scripted answers. Our focus is on helping students understand the assessment, practise relevant tasks and communicate their own experiences clearly.

Whatever your starting point, preparation for any NDA exam falls into four phases:
- Build the base: finish the Maths syllabus and GAT fundamentals.
- Practise: move to sectional tests and previous year questions, and keep an error log.
- Simulate the exam: take full-length mock tests under exam timing and revise weak topics.
- Prepare for the SSB: start focused SSB work while the written result is awaited, instead of waiting for the call letter.
